Bolivar, Mo. - The SBU Bearcats men's basketball team faced off against #11 Central Oklahoma in the final game of the SBU Thanksgiving Classic, dropping the contest 77-66.
The Bronchos got out to a fast start, jumping out to an early 11-2 lead. The Bearcats would hold steady for the remainder of the first half, going into halftime down 47-34. However, the Bearcats would battle back from a 14 point deficit to take a 2 point lead with 13:56 left in the game. However, the Bronchos would extend their lead and ultimately come away with a 77-66 victory.
Ryan Dougherty led the Bearcats with 19 points and grabbed a team high 9 rebounds in the contest.
Preston Guiot added 17 points, including 5 three's and four assists, and
Kyle Sloan,
Abner Kamps, and
Robson Memnon each added 8. As a team, the Bearcats shot 31.8% from the field and 27.3% from beyond the arc. SBU was able to gather more steals (7-5) and matched the Bronchos on assists (13) in the game.
"I will give our guys credit, we got down 13 and were able to come back and take a two point lead in the second half," head coach Jeff Guiot stated. "I thought in the second half we came to play, and we held them to 36.0% shooting from the field. We can play with anybody in the country, but we have to have everybody show up. However, I really like this team. They never get down and they always battle back."
The Bearcats will be back in action on Monday, November 28 with a match-up against the Miners of Missouri S&T. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. Be sure to follow SBU AD
