Bolivar, Mo. - The SBU women's basketball team came away with a 75-67 victory over Ottawa University on Monday night in Bolivar. The Bearcats were led by
Brittney Dukes who had an impressive offensive and defensive game for SBU. "I thought Brittney had an outstanding game," head coach Todd Voss commented. "Her efficiency was off the charts and she did a lot of good things defensively which we are excited to see."
The Bearcats shot lights out in the first half, going into halftime with a 45-35 lead over the Braves. The teams battled back and forth in the second half, with SBU coming away with a 75-67 victory.
Brittney Dukes had the best game of her career as a Bearcat, scoring a career high 30 points off of an impressive 12 of 14 from the field, including 4 three's, and grabbing 7 rebounds in the win.
"It's a blessing," Dukes commented on her performance after the win. "Every day my mom tells me to go out and give it all you can. God will lead your way and take care of the rest. That's what I do every game, I go out and play and pray that God will let it come to me, and he lets it come to me."
Chasity Prince also played well for the Bearcats, scoring 13 points in limited minutes, while
Tanis Spani added 9 and Kaitlin Cramer and
LaKendra Smith both had 8 points for SBU. As a team, SBU shot 50.9% from the field and 45.5% from beyond the arc. The Bearcats able to pull down more rebounds (33-30), had more blocks (4-2), and more steals (7-5) than the Braves.
"We did some good things tonight," Coach Voss stated. "Obviously give Ottawa credit. They shot lights out and had their best night shooting this season from three. We've got to do a better job of taking that away and recognizing who is doing the damage. It's good to get the win, it's a good team win. We do have some things to work on, so we are looking forward to getting back to it."
The Bearcats will be back in action on Wednesday, November 23 when they travel to Southern Arkansas. The game is set to tip-off at 1:00 p.m. from Magnolia, Arkansas.
