SBU Soccer Earns #6 Seed in MIAA Tournament, to take on MSSU on Thursday

Bolivar, Mo.
- After finishing the regular season on a 1-0 victory over Northwest Missouri State on senior day, the Bearcats at set to compete in the 2011 MIAA Soccer Tournament. The Bearcats earned the 6th seed in the tournament, and will face the #3 seed, Missouri Southern, on Thursday, November 3 at 3:00 p.m. from the Durwood Soccer Stadium on the campus of the University of Missouri-Kansas City. The Bearcats split the season series with Lions 1-1, with a 2-1 victory in Joplin, and a 2-1 loss in 2OT in Bolivar SBU was lead in goals this season by Kelly Isaac with six, and goalkeeper Megan Link provided two shutouts for the Bearcats in goal.

"We are excited to be participating in the MIAA Women's Soccer Conference Tournament," head coach Robert Podeyn stated.  "Our opponent for the opening game will be Missouri Southern, a team that is well-organized and well-coached.  We are looking forward to participating in the tournament and representing SBU with pride."

The tournament will kick off Thursday with Missouri Southern taking on Southwest Baptist at 3 p.m. Northwest Missouri and Emporia State will face off Thursday at 6 p.m.
 
Friday, Truman will face the winner of Missouri Southern and Southwest Baptist at 1p.m., followed by Central Missouri taking on the winner of Northwest Missouri and Emporia State at 4 p.m.
 
The championship will be played on Sunday at 1 p.m., featuring the winners of Friday's games.

The Coaches
Bearcat head coach Rob Podeyn enters his third season, and looks to further improve a program that last year went 6-9-3. Over his first two years, Podeyn has recorded a career mark of 13-18-6.  Rob Podeyn became the eighth head coach in SBU history when he accepted the position.  He joined the Bearcats after serving as director of soccer operations, assistant sports information director and head women's soccer coach at Northwood University, positions he held since 2006.

Alese Woolard enters her second season at the helm of the MSSU women's soccer program after serving four years as an assistant coach on former head coach Trevor Wachsman's staff. In her first year at the helm Woolard led the Lions to a 5-8-5 overall record and tied the school record for ties in the season with five as well as setting a school conference record with the five draws.

Scouting the Opponents
Missouri Southern comes into the MIAA Tournament with a overall record of 7-9-1, and a conference record of 6-2. The Lions are currently riding a two game win streak, and lead offensively by Shannon Kuhn and Megan Stueve with 6 goals each.
