Bolivar, Mo. - The Bearcats are set to travel to Fairbanks, Alaska this weekend for the Alaska Invitational Tournament. SBU will face off against University of Alaska-Fairbanks on Thursday, Lindenwood on Friday, and Tiffin (Ohio) on Saturday. SBU is coming off of two straight home victories, and are looking to pick up 3 more wins this weekend.
SBU Head Coach Jeff Guiot
SBU head coach Jeff Guiot is in his eighth season on the Bearcat bench, where he has won three MIAA regular season titles, and compiled a 134-58 (.698) record. Coach Guiot has led the 'Cats to an MIAA Tournament appearance each season, and three NCAA Tournament appearances.
What the SBU Players are Saying:
Ryan Dougherty: “It's a great opportunity for us to travel all the way up to Alaska and get to play against some teams we normally don't see. We are going to go up there and play our hardest and try and get three wins out of the trip.”
Robson Memnon: “It will be a good experience to play other Division II teams. We will be able to find our strengths and weaknesses. It will be a good experience for us.”
Scouting the Nanooks
Alaska-Fairbanks comes into the tournament with a 1-1 record. The Nanooks are led in scoring by sophomore forward, Stefan Tica who averages 22.5 points per game.
Scouting the Lions
Lindenwood comes into the tournament with a 2-0 record. The Lions are led in scoring by senior guard Kramer Soderberg who averages 20.0 points per game.
Scouting the Dragons
Tiffin comes into the tournament with a 2-0 record. The Dragons are led in scoring by sophomore guard Joe Graessle who averages 15.5 points per game. Senior forward Travis Spahr also averages 13.5 points per game, and 12.5 rebounds per game.
