Bolivar, Mo. -- The SBU Bearcats compete against two conference opponents this week facing off against Central Missouri on Thursday, October 27, starting at 3pm and Northwest Missouri State on Saturday, October 29, starting at 12 pm. SBU will look to push their record to 5-10-2 with two victories over the Jennies from Central Missouri and the Northwest Bearcats.
The Bearcats competed against Truman state last week in a competitive game, but were unable to prevail for the win with Truman State scoring two goals.
Paige Hemphill played strong as goalie with ten saves against Truman State.
The Coaches
Bearcat head coach
Rob Podeyn enters his third season, and looks to further improve a program that last year went 6-9-3. Over his first two years, Podeyn has recorded a career mark of 13-18-6.
Rob Podeyn became the eighth head coach in SBU history when he accepted the position. He joined the Bearcats after serving as director of soccer operations, assistant sports information director and head women's soccer coach at Northwood University, positions he held since 2006.
Lewis Theobald is in his 5th season as head coach at Central Missouri with a school coaching record of 75-15-8. Theobald lead the Jennies to a 19-1 record in the 2010 season leading his team to the NCAA Tournament and making it to the sweet 16 for the first time in school history.
Tracy Hoza is in her 9th season as head coach at Northwest Missouri State University with a Northwest career coaching record of 60-87-21.
Scouting the Opponents
Central Missouri is coming into Thursday's game with a 13 game winning streak and ranked first in the MIAA conference with seven wins. The Jennies have given up 5 goals this season while scoring 47 goals for a 15-1 record.
Northwest Missouri State is coming into Saturday's game with a 1-0 win against Lindenwood University. Coming into the last week of October, Northwest is tied for third in the MIAA conference with five wins. The Northwest Missouri Bearcats have given up 21 goals this season while scoring 30 goals for a 9-4-2 record.
