BOLIVAR, Mo. – The SBU Bearcats (5-7, 2-6) picked up an MIAA win against Fort Hays, soundly beating the Lady Tigers 69-55. Jacqui Zelenka led all scorers with 17 points. SBU's Whitney Malone added a double-double, scoring 13 and rebounding 11.

The Bearcats shot an impressive 44.8% and 36.4%, respectively, from the field and from the arc. SBU also out-rebounded Fort Hays 42 to 31.

“I feel like we turned the corner at Emporia offensively,” said SBU's head coach, JC Carter. “We just needed to pick things up defensively like we were playing in the first part of the season. We came out tonight and did two things well in the first half. We rebounded better on the offensive end – and we guarded better.”

“Overall, I feel like our team is confident with what we're doing on both ends. Our team looked a lot more relaxed tonight. We got some good shots in the post, some good kicks, and layups – you can't ask for more than that on the offensive end.”

The Bearcats will travel to Nebraska-Omaha on Saturday for a 5:30 tipoff.
