TOPEKA, Kan. – The SBU Bearcats lost a tough battle to the Washburn Ichabods, 77-53, in an MIAA road game. Tomas Brock led SBU in scoring with 11 points, shooting 4 of 5 from the field, which included 3 of 4 from long range. Stephen Cotton added 8 points and pulled down 5 boards to lead the team in rebounds.

On Thursday, at the regular luncheon of the 6th Man Club, head coach Jeff Guiot commented on the game at Washburn. “I was happy that our guys in the post played better,” reported Guiot. “But we've got to get tough, and get back to the basics. We didn't shoot particularly well last night, so the key for us is the battle on the boards. Especially when shots aren't falling for whatever reason, you have to get more rebounds to create more shot opportunities. Because the team that shoots the most usually wins. So we've got to rebound better to make up the differential in shot attempts.”

“There is a lot of basketball left,” continued Guiot. “We've just got to keep guarding better and stopping our opponent's layups and 2nd-chance shots. But we're going to keep a good attitude and keep working hard.”

As a team, the Bearcats shot 36.4% from the field, 27.6% from the arc, and 50.0% from the stripe.

SBU will face Fort Hays State in Bolivar on Saturday night.
