THE OPENING TIP

The SBU Bearcats face the MIAA newcomers Lincoln University at home this Tuesday, January 25. The game can be found live on 99.9 KBFL, and streaming online at www.radiospringfield.com. A live webcast will be available as well, at www.AmericaOne.com.

THE COACHES AND ALL-TIME SERIES

SBU head coach J.C. Carter is in his third season on the Bearcat bench, where his teams have shown improvement each season. Last year's 10-18 mark was two games better than Carter's first year in Bolivar.

Katie Vaugh enters her first season as Lincoln University's head women's basketball coach. Previously coach Vaughn served as the head coach of the Moberly Area Community College women's basketball team, where her teams combined record was 56-37
SBU has dominated the series with Lincoln, posting a 22-6 record over the Blue Tigers. Lincoln was a member of the MIAA until 1999, and have returned for the 2010-11 season. The bearcats have won the past 17 games against Lincoln, dating back to 1990-91

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE BEARCATS


The Bearcat women's basketball team lost to the Jennies of Central Missouri, 41-70 in Warrensburg, Mo. “We need to work on defense and taking more high percentage shots inside,” head coach J.C. Carter stated after the game.

Courtney Heady scored a team high 11 points, and Whitney Malone grabbed 6 rebounds and blocked 3 shots in the loss. The Bearcats were able for force 16 turnovers, and collected more blocks (5) and steals (9) than the Jennies.

QUICK HITS

•Senior Courtney Heady lead the Bearcats against the UCM Jennies with a total of 11 points. Heady score three three-pointers and had two rebounds against UCM.

Chasity Prince once again came off the bench strong scoring seven points last Saturday (Jan. 15). The sophomore from Columbia, Mo. also had two steals against the Jennies.

Tanis Spani played 25 minutes against the UCM Jennies. The freshman made two three-pointers and helped the Bearcats with six points.

• Senior forward Whitney Malone is one of the front-runners for the MIAA All-Defense team. Malone averages 6.4 defensive rebouds per game (2nd in the MIAA). Last Saturday (Jan. 22), Malone had three blocks, three steals, one assists and scored three points for the Bearcats.

• The Bearcat women have an overall record of 6-9 (3-8 MIAA). Offensively SBU averages 64.5 points per game (9th in MIAA). Defensively SBU conceives an average of 65.5 points per game (9th MIAA).

Scouting the Blue Tigers


Lincoln University is ranked 12th in the MIAA standings with a 1-15 overall record (0-12 MIAA). Offensively the Blue Tigers average 55 points per game, defensively they conceive an average of 68.8 points per game.

Vivian Essue is the Blue Tigers' leading scorer with 16.5 points per game, fifth-most in the MIAA. The junior forward also leads the Blue Tiger in field goal attempts (12 att/g), and field goals made (6.9 made.g).
