THE OPENING TIP
The SBU Bearcats travel to Warrensburg this Saturday to face the UCM Jennies. The game can be found live on 99.9 KBFL, and streaming online at www.radiospringfield.com. A live webcast will be availiable as well, at www.AmericaOne.com.
THE COACHES AND ALL-TIME SERIES
SBU head coach J.C. Carter is in his third season on the Bearcat bench, where his teams have shown improvement each season. Last year's 10-18 mark was two games better than Carter's first year in Bolivar.
This is the seventh year that Dave Slifer commands the UCM Jennies. He is the sixth-winningest active coach in NCAA D-II women's basketball. Coach Slifer has a 492-168 (.745) overall record, and a 109-69 record at UCM. Last season the Jennies finished with a 19-12 (13-7 MIAA) overall record, and coach Slifer lead his team to their first NCAA appearance in four years.
The Jennies lead the all-time series 11-43 and have won the past two games against the Bearcats.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE BEARCATS
Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist lady Bearcats lost a hard fought battle against the Bearcats of Northwest Missouri, 68-78. SBU was able to grab an early second half lead and stay close with the Northwest Missouri Bearcats, but came up just short in the end.
Chasity Prince lead the way for SBU with 12 points,
Courtney Heady added another 11, and
Ashleigh Gallio finished off the double digit scoring with 10 points. As a team, SBU shot 42.6% from the field and 37.1% from beyond the arc.
“We have been shooting well and playing well,” head coach J.C. Carter stated after the game, “but we still have some things to work on.”
The Bearcats next game will be Wednesday, January 19th when they travel to Missouri Western to take on the Griffons. “The confidence is still here,” said coach Carter

•Sophomore forward
Chasity Prince lead the Bearcats against the Northwest Mo. University squad last Saturday (Jan. 15) with 12 points. Prince averages 4.9 points per game and has a total of 69 points this season.
• Senior guard
Courtney Heady scored four three-pointers against Northwest Mo. State. She also holds the 10th position in the conference in 3 points field goal percentage (.342) Heady had a total of 11 points last Saturday (Jan. 15).
• Freshman forward
Jacqui Zelenka played 25 minutes against the Northwest Mo. State Bearcats, she scored a total of nine points, had four assists and two rebounds.
• Senior forward
Whitney Malone is one of the early front-runners for the MIAA All-Defense team, ranking third in the conference in defensive rebounds (6.1 reb/g) and third in steals (2.5 s/g). Malone scored 8 points, had 4 rebounds, and 4 steals against the Northwest Mo. Bearcats last Saturday (Jan. 15)
• The Bearcat women have an overall record of 6-8 (3-7 MIAA). Offensively SBU averages 65.2 points per game (8th in MIAA). Defensively SBU conceives an average of 63.9 points per game (7th MIAA).
Scouting the Jennies
The University of Central Missouri Jennies are ranked eighth in the conference. UCM has an overall record of 8-9 (4-7 MIAA). The Jennies average 69.4 points per game (4th in MIAA). Defensively UCM conceives 66 points per game.
Scouting the Jennies
Senior Rebecca Roberts averages 13.4 points per game. She rebounds 7.1 per game and has a total of 18 assists this season. Last Wednesday (Jan. 19) Roberts scored 22 points against Truman State University, she also had 11 rebounds, one assist, one block, and one steal.
