MARYVILLE, Mo. -- Trailing by a goal at two different points in the match, the SBU Bearcats completed the comeback against the green Bearcats from Northwest Missouri State, and earn a 3-2 victory. Freshman forward
Ashley Creason scored in the first half to tie the match at 1-1, her team-leading fifth goal of the year.
Northwest Missouri was able to strike first on their home field, when in the 23rd minute, Kelly Obley scored unassisted for her second goal of the season. SBU tried to regain momentum, as midfielders
Kelly Isaac and
Lindsey Boden each had a crack at the goal, but their shots were held on to by the Northwest keeper. The green Bearcats held the advantage in shots taken in the first half, 10-6, and were awarded nine corners in the opening forty-five minutes.
Just ten minutes into the second half, Creason struck the equalizer, from a pass from forward
Brittany Ready. The tie didn't last long, however, as Northwest took four shots over the next eight minutes, the last of which scored and put the green Bearcats back on top, 2-1, in the 68th minute.
Less than two minutes later, the 'Cats were awarded a corner kick, that Ready took and hooked into the goal for her first goal of the season, and tied the game at 2-2. Shortly after that, in the 71st minute,
Brenna Lacaillade put SBU up for good with the second goal of her career .
With the win, SBU moves to 2-2-2 in the MIAA, and 3-3-2 overall. SBU will take next week off, and is back in action next Saturday, October, 2 as they host Washburn. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
