BETHANY, Okla. --
The SBU football Bearcats used big second and fourth quarters to rout NAIA Southern Nazarene 69-27. Quarterback Steve Gachette was dominant, completing 38 of 44 passes for 424 yards and three touchdowns. Gachette also rushed for 160 yards on 16 carries with three TDs. Justin Duhaney also had a big day, rushing for 111 yards on 21 carries and two scores, while also catching seven passes for 95 yards.

The Bearcats (3-2) won their third straight contest while piling up a school record 755 yards of total offense, breaking the old mark of 696 set last year against Missouri S&T. SBU had two players rush for more than 100 yards and two players with over 100 yards receiving.

Leading 7-0 after a first quarter 10-yard rushing touchdown by Duhaney, SBU put 28 points on the board in the second quarter. Duhaney scored his second rushing TD just 32 seconds into the quarter. Southern Nazarene (3-2) answered quickly when quarterback Brady Wardlaw sprinted through for a 55-yard touchdown.

With nine minutes left in the second, Gachette scored the first of his ground touchdowns, on a nine-yard run to put SBU up 21-7. Following a three and out by the Crimson Storm, SBU used 11 plays and four and a half minutes to score, capped by Gachette's 16-yard rush. The Storm came right back with a quick six-play drive, finished by Derick Perkins scoring from seven yards out.

SNU went for an onside kick but it was recovered by the Bearcats in Storm territory. Seventy-eight seconds later, Gachette found Charles Johnson from nine yards out to put SBU up 35-13 just before the half. SBU put up 430 yards of total offense in the first half.

SBU kicked off to start the second half, but the Storm fumbled on the return to set up another quick SBU score. Gachtette found Derrick Foster from four yards out to put SBU up 42-13. The Crimson Storm cut the lead during the third quarter with two touchdowns as SBU led 42-27 after three.

The Bearcats quieted the Storm in the fourth quarter, with 27 unanswered points. Gachette rushed for his third score, from 18 yards out early in the period. Gachette hit Duhaney on a short pass, and the sophomore back did the rest, scoring on 70-yard play with eight minutes left. Chris Culbreth scored on a five-yard run and Tiras Harris scored from four yards out late in the quarter.

D.A. Allen and Charles Johnson each caught nine passes for over one hundred yards -- Allen with 109 yards and Johnson with 107 yards and one score. Austin Otwell led the SBU defense with 11 tackles while Karre' Wallace had 9 stops.

SNU's Wardlaw rushed for 139 yards on 15 carries, while throwing for 237 yards on 17 of 38 attempts. Jarod Martin caught four passes for 95 yards. Matt Pruitt had 11 tackles for the Storm. SNU racked up 439 yards of total offense including 196 on the ground.

With all the offense between the two teams, the game was ugly in one aspect. SBU committed 18 penalties for 202 yards while the Storm had 10 flags for 81 yards.

SBU continues its long road trip next weekend, when they visit Urbana in Ohio. Kickoff between the Bearcats and Blue Knights begins at 11 a.m. Central.
