ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- Megan Link recorded her second shutout of the season, but the Bearcat offense was unable to punch in a goal, as the SBU Bearcats and Missouri Western Griffons tie, 0-0. The sophomore goalkeeper made seven saves over 110 minutes, as the Griffons took 15 shots in the match.
The 'Cats had their share of chances to take the lead; SBU outshot the Griffons until the second overtime period, but Western ultimately led in shots, 15-14. Nine different Bearcats took a shot, the most in a game so far this season.
Ashley Creason, the reigning MIAA Player of the Week, led the team with three shots, while
Lindsey Boden,
Kelly Isaac, and
Marene Gomez each had a pair of chances. SBU also had the advantage in corner kicks, 6-5.
With the tie, SBU sits at 2-2-1 overall on the year, and 1-1-1 in the MIAA. The Griffons (0-3-2, 1-1-1 MIAA) are still looking for their first victory, as they pull into a tie for fifth with the Bearcats in the conference standings. SBU is back in action this weekend, kicking off "Monster Saturday," with a match against Truman at noon. Following the match, SBU football takes on William Jewell at Plaster Stadium, then later that afternoon, SBU volleyball matches up with Nebraska-Omaha.
