WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- The SBU soccer Bearcats looked in control after two goals in the first half, but the Central Missouri Jennies managed three scores after halftime to take the match, 3-2. Senior
Lindsey Boden scored the first goal of her season to put the 'Cats up early, and defender
Marene Gomez doubled the SBU lead just three minutes later.
The Jennies outshot SBU in the first half, 6-5, but goalkeeper
Megan Link was able to stop all of them. After halftime, however, the game changed. UCM took 13 shots compared to just two for the Bearcats, and while Link was able to make six saves throughout the game, three strikes found the back of the net. Central Missouri found their equalizer in the 62nd minute, off a corner kick. The Jennies broke through with the lead in the 90th minute, after Central's Alyssa Rhodes put her team on top for good.
After the loss, SBU falls to 2-2 on the year, and 1-1 in the MIAA. The next test for the Bearcats comes this Thursday, September 16, in their home opener against Missouri Western. Kickoff for the afternoon matchup is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
