JOPLIN, Mo. --
The SBU baseball Bearcats dropped both of their scheduled Sunday games plus Saturday's suspended contest to the Missouri Southern Lions. The suspended game started Sunday's action, with the Lions winning 4-0. The Lions then took both of the other games, winning 9-3 and 14-4.

Saturday's first game was suspended in the fifth inning with SBU batting, having two on with Missouri Southern leading 3-0. When the game resumed Sunday, the Bearcats were unable to score and Southern added another run in the sixth inning. Justin Barnhart went 2-for-2 in the contest.

In the second game of the day, MSSU jumped out to an early lead with four in the second, two more in the third and single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. SBU got all three of their runs in the fifth. Barnhart doubled to score Nigel Morton. Later with two outs, Kyle Wise singled to score Niko Saladis and then Taylor Trotter doubled, plating Paden Grubbs.

Barnhart led the way again, going 3-for-4 while Grubbs also had two hits. MSSU was led by Fernando Lugo with three hits and two RBI. MSSU's Carter Lance went the distance and struck out five.

It was sloppy in the third game of the day, as the Lions pounded the Bearcats early and led 12-0 after three innings. SBU didn't help their pitching, committing five errors in the last game. SBU's four runs came in the sixth inning. Justin Crumpley doubled to score Grubbs. A sacrifice fly from Brandon Shepherd brought home another run. RBI singles from Kyle Tormanen and Barnhart brought in the other runs.

The Bearcats managed just five hits, between five players. Senior Kyle Howell threw an inning of scoreless relief.

The Bearcats dropped to 11-38 overall and 9-30 in the MIAA while the Lions improved to 25-24 and 19-18 in the MIAA. UPDATE: The teams will finish their series on Monday at 6 p.m. with a single nine-inning contest.
