JOPLIN, Mo. -- The SBU softball Bearcats dropped both games of their doubleheader Saturday at Missouri Southern, falling 4-1 in game one and 5-4 in game two. 3B Krysta Baderdeen went a combined 5-for-7 in the twinbill, with two RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base.
SBU's lone run in the opener came when Katrina Munoz reached on an error, and later scored on a RBI groundout by Stephanie Sechler. Baderdeen had two of the three SBU hits with Karly Bitters having the other. Missouri Southern scored once in the first and three times in the fifth. Angie Turner led the Lions with three RBI in opener.
The Bearcats (11-17, 0-4 MIAA) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second game. In the first inning, Baderdeen singled and later scored on a fielder's choice. Baderdeen's second inning single brought home both Sechler and Munoz. Missouri Southern (11-23-1, 2-4 MIAA) scored once in the second and added four more in the fifth for the win. Whitney Clute of MSSU went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
SBU continues MIAA play on Monday at Pittsburg State. The doubleheader, which was rescheduled from this weekend due to rain, begins at 2 p.m.
