BOLIVAR, Mo. -- The #31 SBU Bearcat men's tennis team completed MIAA play with a 9-0 sweep of Nebraska-Omaha Saturday. SBU improved its overall mark to 9-8 and finished MIAA regular season play at 4-1.
SBU took all three doubles matches before moving into singles action, where they continued to roll. Jorge Margiotta and Jorge Palacios coasted to 6-0, 6-0 wins and
Domingos Carissimo locked up the match with a 6-1, 6-4 over Matt Frost. With the match in hand, Marton Zsiga defeated Drew Mercier in a third set super tiebreaker 10-7 after splitting the first two sets. Brandon Finerty (6-1, 6-0) and Tyler Welch also posted comfortable wins at #5 and #6 respectively.
Though the Bearcats have finished MIAA regular season play at 4-1, in a scheduling quirk, all five other MIAA men's squads have only played one MIAA match. SBU will watch through the month of April through the rest of MIAA play to see where their seed will be in the conference tournament, which occurs in Kansas City on April 24-25.
The Bearcat men return to action next weekend when they host Graceland on Friday, April 9 at 6:00 p.m. and Arkansas Fort-Smith on Saturday, April 10 at 9:00 a.m.
