WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- The SBU softball Bearcats gained a split Tuesday at Central Missouri, winning game one 3-2 behind home runs from Krysta Baderdeen and Devon McNeal. Baderdeen's two solo blasts gave her 11 for the season, extending her school records for single season and career home runs. UCM won the nightcap, 8-0, behind a six-inning no-hitter from Megan Schallom.
The Bearcats (21-28, 4-10 MIAA) got solo home runs from Baderdeen in the first inning, McNeal in the second and Baderdeen again in the sixth. McNeal's blast was her first of the season. Josie Rose picked up her 14th win of the season, going seven innings while striking out four.
The opening win was the first for the Bearcats in Warrensburg since 2000 and the first over the Jennies since 2006.
For the Jennies (21-22, 7-7 MIAA) in game two, it was all Megan Schallom. The redshirt freshman only struck out one and walked two but allowed no hits. UCM got a single run in the second, two more in the third and finished off the game with five in the sixth. The no-hitter was the second against the Bearcats this season, as Truman's Richelle vanGennip blanked the Bearcats on April 16.
This weekend, the Bearcats continue their road swing with a Friday, April 30 visit to Nebraska-Omaha at 1 p.m. Then it's a stop at Northwest Missouri on Saturday, May 1, starting at noon. Both days are doubleheaders as SBU still has an outside shot at finishing in the top eight and qualifying for the MIAA Tournament.
