KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The SBU women's team earned the third seed in the MIAA Championship Tournament, to be held this weekend (April 24-25) at the Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City. The SBU women will take on sixth-seeded Emporia State at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 24. The winner of that match will play the winner of #2 Washburn and #7 Fort Hays State.
In other first round action, top-seeded Northwest Missouri will play eighth-seeded Missouri Western and #4 Truman will take on #5 Nebraska-Omaha. All first round matches are set to begin at 9:30 a.m. with consolation and championship semifinals to be played at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Saturday or one and half hours after completion of all first round matches.
SBU (10-6, 5-2 MIAA) defeated Emporia State 5-4 in Emporia, Kan., on March 23. The Bearcat women fell to Washburn 5-4 but defeated Fort Hays 6-0 during the regular season.
The championship, third place and fifth place matches will be on Sunday, April 25 starting at noon. The seventh place match will be held at 9 a.m. also on Sunday.
