BOLIVAR, Mo. -- SBU senior lefthander Greg Seay continued his recent roll, tossing a complete game nine-inning shutout as the baseball Bearcats swept a doubleheader against the Truman Bulldogs. SBU got a solid outing from Jared Berman on the mound in game one, and rallied for a 4-2 victory. Seay controlled the game in the second contest, allowing just four hits while striking out nine in the 8-0 SBU win.
SBU (10-32, 8-24 MIAA) jumped on top with a first inning run in game one. Taylor Trotter singled to plate Paden Grubbs. Truman (10-31, 5-25 MIAA) answered with two in the top of the fourth. With the Bulldogs batting with two outs in the fifth, the rains came forcing a 40-minute delay.
When play resumed, back came the Bearcats, scoring two in the fifth and another in the sixth. Kyle Wise's two-out double scored Justin Barnhart and Nigel Morton in the fifth then Justin Crumpley scored on a sacrifice bunt by Morton in the sixth.
Crumpley went 2-for-2 while Berman went 5 1/3 innings, allowing just one earned run and five hits. Josh Brock came on in relief for his second save.
Seay was the story in game two, tossing his second straight nine-inning complete game. Against TSU, Seay allowed four hits, walked none and struck out a season high nine batters. Seay has won his last three starts, allowing just two earned runs in 23 innings pitched for an ERA of 0.78.
Niko Saladis drove in three runs in game two while Morton knocked in two. SBU got two runs in the first, added another in the third, scored two more in each of the fourth and sixth innings and another in the seventh. SBU was aided by some shaky Truman defense, as the Bulldogs committed nine errors on the day.
The Bearcats will look for their first MIAA series win of the season Saturday, with another twinbill starting at noon from Dodson Field.
