BOLIVAR, Mo. -- The SBU softball got two different types of wins in Tuesday's sweep over Lincoln. The Bearcats won the opening pitcher's duel 2-1 in come-from-behind fashion, before pounding the Blue Tigers 9-1 in the second game.
Josie Rose went the distance in the first game, striking out seven while allowing just three hits. Rose outdid Lincoln's Olivia Durrell as the Bearcats rallied with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Lincoln (5-25, 5-9 HC) led 1-0 with two outs in the last inning of the opener when Krysta Baderdeen homered to center to tie the game. Then Sarah Brison reached on a throwing error by the LU shortstop and wound up at second base. Brison moved to third on Nina Amaro-Garcia's single. Devon McNeal provided the game winner with single up the middle. Baderdeen went 3-for-3 in the opener while McNeal and Katrina Munoz had two hits each.
In the second game, SBU jumped on top early, with three runs in the first and single tallies in the second and third innings. The Bearcats put the game away with four in the sixth inning. Amaro-Garcia provided the early offense with first inning two-run shot and ended game two with two hits and three RBI. Brison and Karly Bitters also had three hits each, with Brison scoring three times in the rout. Bitters also started the second contest, going three innings and allowing just one hit.
This Thursday through Saturday, the Bearcats (15-23, 2-8 MIAA) will visit Northwest Missouri for the MIAA Northern Crossover Tournament. SBU will take on NWMSU on Thursday at 4 p.m., then three squads on Friday (Fort Hays, Missouri Western and Truman) and will wrap up on Saturday with games against Nebraska-Omaha at 10 a.m. and Washburn at 2 p.m. The games will not count in the conference standings.
