Game 1 | Game 2 | Season Stats

BOLIVAR, Mo. --
The Bearcats fell behind early and even with a solid day at the plate, were unable to complete a comeback in both ends of a doubleheader against the Rockhurst Hawks. SBU suffered losses of 10-7 and 12-6 in the pair of seven-inning matchups. The Bearcats climbed back into each game in the later innings, scoring four runs in the seventh of each game.

In the opener, Rockhurst struck first with a run in the second inning, but the Bearcats would answer quickly. Right fielder Taylor Trotter led off the bottom of the second with a double, and when second baseman Kyle Tormanen singled with two outs, Trotter came across the plate to tie the game.

The game appeared to be getting away when Rockhurst scored three in the seventh inning to make it a 10-3 Hawk lead. SBU wasn't done just yet, however, and with three doubles, two singles, and a walk, the 'Cats brought in four runs before Rockhurst could record an out. After a sacrifice fly from Brandon Shepherd closed the gap to 10-7, SBU got caught up in a double play that killed the rally.

Four runs in both the second and fourth innings of the second game gave Rockhurst a comfortable lead, and looked to have the game well in hand by the bottom of the seventh again. Once again the Bearcats made a late game rally, starting again with a leadoff double from Trotter. After Brendon Cox's pinch hit single, and Nigel Morton taking one for the team getting hit with a pitch, the table was set for Justin Barnhart. The senior third baseman took one deep to left field for a grand slam, his second long ball of the season.

The rally proved to be too little, too late again, as Rockhurst was able to shut the door and make it a 12-6 final. Left fielder Paden Grubbs, along with Trotter, each went 4-for-7 combined between the two games. Trotter scored three runs while Grubbs scored a run and drove in two RBI. Catcher Dominic Bouvier had a double in game one followed by a pair of singles in game two that extends his hitting streak to six games, the longest of the season for the junior.

The Bearcats are back in action this Friday and Saturday, April 16-17, as they host a four-game set against Truman State. The doubleheader for Friday is scheduled for 1 pm, while Saturday's twinbill will kick off at noon.
