MARYVILLE, Mo. -- The SBU Bearcat baseball team earned a split on day two of their four-game series at Northwest Missouri, winning 6-1 after falling 4-3 in the first game. SBU got strong performances from Greg Seay and the middle of their lineup in their victory.
In the opener, SBU (8-30, 6-24 MIAA) scored all three of their runs in the fifth inning to tie the game. Taylor Trotter doubled down the left field line to score Justin Barnhart and later Brandon Shepherd hit a two-run homer. Barnhart led the purple 'Cats with two hits, while Jared Berman took the loss despite going six innings and allowing just three earned runs.
In the second game, SBU got a dominant complete game performance from lefthander Greg Seay. Seay went nine innings and allowed just one while scattering seven hits to pick up his second win of the year. Paden Grubbs and Kyle Wise homered for SBU. Grubbs went 3-for-4 and drove in two while Wise also drove in two. Trotter also went 3-for-3 for SBU. Dominic Bouvier also had a two-run double for SBU.
SBU returns home for a Tuesday doubleheader with Rockhurst. The first of the two seven-inning contests will begin at 2 p.m. from Dodson Field.
