ADA, Okla. -- Bearcat hitters struggled against the East Central Lady Tigers, as SBU softball managed just seven hits in a pair of losses to ECU, 8-0 in the opener, and 6-1 in the second. Krysta Baderdeen increased her hitting streak to four games, after going 1-for-2 in each contest. Pitcher Karly Bitters earned the Bearcats' lone RBI in the second game off a single to left; shortstop Latasha Baderdeen was able to score when the Lady Tigers left fielder bobbled the ball.
BreAnn Proctor and Stephanie Luciani had a chance in the fifth inning of game one to get on the board when Proctor singled and advanced to second on an error by the Lady Tigers. Proctor was then caught stealing before Luciani singled in the next at-bat. East Central pitching closed the door on a potential rally with back-to-back strikeouts to end the inning.
Pitcher Josie Rose showed flashes of dominance in the opening game, when after getting rattled early, struck out four straight batters; The first was to get out of the first inning with limited damage, then Rose went three up, three down in the second inning with three swinging K's.
The Bearcats fall to 5-7 on the year, but have a chance to get back up to .500 with another pair of games to finish up the four-game series against East Central Saturday (tomorrow) starting at 11 a.m.
