HAYS, Kan. -- The SBU softball Bearcats dropped a doubleheader Sunday at Fort Hays State, falling 8-4 and 4-1 to the Tigers. The twinbill was the MIAA opener for SBU and was pushed a day due to the weather.
In the opener, BreAnn Proctor went 2-for-4 with a run and RBI while Katrina Munoz drove in two runs. After FHSU (12-8, 3-1 MIAA) got four runs in the second inning, SBU got on the board in the fourth with an RBI single by Stephanie Luciani. Hays tacked onto their count with a run in the fifth and three more in the sixth. Proctor doubled to right field that scored Chelsi Fischer. Later Proctor and Stacie Davis scored on a single by Munoz.
Fort Hays had another big second inning in the nightcap, scoring three runs to grab the early lead. SBU's lone run came on an RBI single by Nina Amaro-Garcia that scored Krysta Baderdeen. The Bearcats (10-14, 0-2 MIAA) were held to just three hits by FHSU freshman pitcher Maddie Holub. Holub also tied the FHSU record with 15 strikeouts.
SBU is back in action at home on Tuesday when they host Maryville University for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
