BOLIVAR, Mo. -- Same day, second verse. A day after dropping the first game in a doubleheader against Fort Hays, then rallying to win in extra innings in the nightcap, the SBU Bearcats repeated the feat Saturday. SBU won 7-6 in 12 innings in game two of the twinbill with the Tigers, after falling 9-4 in the opener.
Kyle Wise doubled to start the 12th, and was bunted to third by Taylor Trotter. After Kyle Tormanen struck out, Steven Davis was intentionally walked. Justin Crumpley singled to left to bring home Wise. It was Crumpley's third RBI of the game, as the Bearcats (5-22, 4-16 MIAA) gained a split in the four-game series with the Tigers (17-7, 10-6 MIAA).
As was the case Friday, the Bearcats had a balanced attack offensively and solid work out of their bullpen, leading to the win. Nigel Morton, Paden Grubbs, Lendon Ehlman, Wise, Trotter and Crumpley each had two hits as SBU recorded 13 hits in game two. Justin Wright pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings in middle relief while Josh Brock shut out the Tigers for 4 2/3 innings and picked up his second win of the season. FHSU's Kelton Rule drove in two and had two hits.
The Tigers jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three innings, helped by two early Bearcat errors. SBU was held in check by FHSU lefthander Matt Augustine, until the seventh inning, when the 'Cats scored twice on a homer by Wise and RBI single from Morton. The Bearcats got four more in the eighth to tie the game, with two-run singles from Trotter and later by Crumpley.
In the first game with the wind blowing out to left, the Tigers got four homers, including two by Kyle Stacken, as Fort Hays won 9-4. Trotter also had a three-run blast in the opener, while Davis and Morton each had two hits for SBU.
SBU continues their homestand on Tuesday afternoon, when they host the league-leading and #3 Central Missouri Mules, beginning at 2:00 p.m. from Dodson Field.
