Bearcat softball splits games at Drury

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. --
With some key extra base hits, the SBU Bearcats gained a road split at Drury Tuesday, winning 7-4 in the second game after dropping the first game 6-5.

Freshman Latasha Baderdeen had the big first game, going 3-for-4 with four RBI. Her triple cleared the bases in the fourth inning, as the Bearcats (10-12) rallied from an early 3-0 deficit. BreAnn Proctor also went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Drury (7-17) took the lead in the opener with three runs in their first at-bat. The Bearcats answered with a run in the third on an RBI double by Latasha Baderdeen and then added four more in the fourth inning. Drury tied it with two in the bottom of same inning. The Panthers won the game with two outs in the seventh, when  Natalie Sago singled to score Ashley Balazs.

It was the Bearcats who jumped out to the early lead in the nightcap, getting one in the first inning when Proctor scored on an error after stealing third. Proctor scored again in the third on a two-run blast by Sarah Brison. Drury tied the game with two runs in the third and another in the fourth.

SBU went back on top with a fifth inning RBI single from Nina Amaro-Garcia that scored Baderdeen. Amaro-Garcia supplied the big blast in the seventh inning, with a three-run homer. Brison went 3-for-3 in game two with two RBI and two runs scored, while Amaro-Garcia had two hits and four RBI. Proctor also had two hits and scored three times.

UPDATE: Wednesday's scheduled MIAA games at Central Missouri in Warrensburg have postponed due to field conditions. No makeup date has been announced. The Bearcats are scheduled to visit Fort Hays State in Hays, Kansas on Saturday for a doubleheader starting at noon.
