BOLIVAR, Mo. -- The SBU baseball Bearcats jumped out to a big lead and held off a late charge from the Missouri S&T Miners to win 11-9 in Tuesday's non-conference action.
Paden Grubbs had his best day at the plate so far this year, going 2-for-3 with three runs and four RBI, including a two-run shot in the sixth. Niko Saladis went 3-for-4 on the day with an RBI while Kyle Wise went 2-for-4 with a home run. Nigel Morton went 2-for-4 and scored twice. Wes Burrell picked up the win while Seth Tucker picked up his first career save.
After allowing a first inning run to the Miners, Burrell settled down and struck out five in five innings pitched. The Bearcats provided plenty of run support, grabbing a single run in the second before getting three runs in each of the third and fourth innings. The 'Cats tacked on two more in the sixth and seventh innings. The Miners' big frame came in the top of the eighth inning when the visitors scored seven times.
The Miners (2-9) were led by Ben Pieper who went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI.
SBU (2-9, 1-3 MIAA) continues their homestand this Friday and Saturday, when they host the Missouri Western Griffons. Each day's doubleheader begins at noon from Dodson Field.
