SBU NOTES

BOLIVAR, Mo. -- The baseball Bearcats continue their ten-game homestand Tuesday when they host Missouri S&T in a non-conference game. The 'Cats will follow that up with a four-game weekend series with Missouri Western. SBU picked up their first win of the season last Saturday, when three pitchers combined for a two-hit shutout of the Washburn Ichabods.

Catcher Steven Davis is hitting .429 (9-for-21) and has an on-base percentage of .538. Davis also tops the Bearcats with a .524 slugging percentage. Centerfielder Niko Saladis leads the team with 13 total bases, 11 hits and five runs scored. Designated hitter Kyle Wise leads with five RBI.

In his first start with SBU, junior RHP Jared Berman allowed just one hit and combined with Wes Burrell and Josh Brock to blank the Ichabods. Berman has team-best 1.59 ERA through 5.2 innings pitched in two appearances. LHP Greg Seay has received just four runs of support in his three losses. Seay leads the staff with 17.2 innings pitched. Seay has struck 16 in his three starts, while RHP Ethan Stenger is right behind at 15 strikeouts.

THE COACHES AND SERIES HISTORY
Bearcat head coach Sam Berg begins his 11th season in the SBU dugout. Berg just needs one win for his 150th victory in a SBU uniform. During his time in Bolivar, Berg has seen his program produce 24 All-MIAA awards, and two NCAA All-Region winners.

Todd DeGraffenreid is head coach of the Miners and is in his seventh season. The Miners have been in contention for a GLVC playoff spot each of the last two seasons. SBU owns a 41-35 all-time mark against the Miners. The Bearcats and Miners have not met since 2006, a 9-7 SBU win.

Buzz Verduzco is also in his 11th season at the helm of the Missouri Western program. The Griffons went 34-22 a year ago and finished fifth in the MIAA at 22-16. MWSU leads SBU 25-6 in the all-time series. The Griffons took three of four last season in St. Joseph.

SCOUTING THE MINERS AND GRIFFONS
Hunter Scheib (.375) and Brandon Cogan (.324) are the top hitters for the Miners. Cogan also tops the Miners with 18 total bases and 11 hits. Nick Johnson is the top starting pitcher for the Miners with a 3.12 ERA and 1-1 record. Caleb Lambert leads the Miners with 12 strikeouts.

Through just six games this season, the Griffons have only played against Southern Indiana and Fort Hays. Isaac Rome (.308) and Danny Conners (.300) top the MWSU hitters, while Andy Hebrard (3.00 ERA) and Chris Sunvold (0.00 ERA in 6.0 IP) lead the Griffon hurlers.

NEXT UP FOR THE BEARCATS
The Bearcats wrap up a ten-game homestand next Tuesday, March 9, when they host Lincoln Blue Tigers in a single nine-inning contest. Lincoln has already played 15 games in the Heartland Conference (through Monday, March 1). James Johndrow leads Lincoln with a .306 average. SBU visits Pitt State for a four-game set on March 12-13. The Gorillas have only played five games so far in 2010. Jeremy Filer (.500) and Taylor Sibala (.476) lead Pitt State in hitting.
