BOLIVAR, Mo. -- The SBU softball Bearcats opened their first homestand of the season with an offensive outburst, sweeping a doubleheader from Division I Arkansas-Pine Bluff. A six-run first inning, powered by back-to-back home runs from Krysta Baderdeen and Sarah Brison, helped SBU to 8-0 win in the opener. Brison and Latasha Baderdeen homered in the second game, as SBU won a 10-7 shootout.

"I just happy our girls came out hitting," said SBU head coach Christy Capner. "We set the tone in the first inning in the first game. Josie (Rose) also threw well today."

SBU (4-4) jumped on top in the first inning, scoring six times. A three-run blast from Krysta Baderdeen brought home BreAnn Proctor and Latasha Baderdeen. Brison followed with a solo shot. After reaching on an error, Nina Amaro-Garcia stole second and later scored on a single from Stephanie Luciani. Luciani would later score on a single from Katrina Munoz. In the second inning, McKenzie Mortimer's bases loaded walk brought home Krysta Baderdeen. Another bases loaded walk by Luciani brought home Brison.

Josie Rose (2-2) went the full five innings and struck out seven while allowing two hits. Krysta Baderdeen went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored. Brison was also 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Luciani also drove in two, while Proctor was also 2-for-3 with a run scored.

In the wild second contest, Krysta Baderdeen's double brought home Munoz in the first inning. The Lady Lions grabbed the lead with two runs in the third inning before SBU tied it in the bottom half on Brison's second homer of the day. A single from Munoz scored Luciani in the fourth. Each team got two runs in the fifth inning, SBU's coming on hits from Latasha Baderdeen and Stephanie Sechler.

SBU opened the game up in the sixth inning with five tallies. A double from Krysta Baderdeen scored Munoz, Mortimer tripled to score two runners and Latasha Baderdeen had a two-run shot in the big frame. UAPB (0-6) tacked on three in the seventh to make things interesting, but SBU held on to even their record at 4-4.

Karly Bitters picked up her second win after throwing five innings and striking out six. Latasha Baderdeen and Munoz were each 3-for-4. Krysta Baderdeen, Brison, Amaro-Garcia and Luciani each had two hits, as SBU pounded out 16 hits.

SBU resumes action on Monday, when they host Ouachita Baptist in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
