ARKADELPHIA, Ark. -- The SBU softball Bearcats dropped both contests on the opening day of their 2010 season, falling 10-1 to Henderson State and 6-5 to Ouachita Baptist at the OBU Classic.
In the opener, the Bearcats took a quick 1-0 lead when BreAnn Proctor singled to lead off the inning, then stole second and third base, one after another. After a walk, Proctor crossed the plate on a wild pitch. Henderson State took control from that point forward; the Lady Reddies put up nine runs on the bottom of the inning, followed by another in the fourth.
The Bearcats led 5-0 in the second game against OBU, before the Lady Tigers rallied to win 6-5. The 'Cats got all five runs in the first inning. Sarah Brison singled to score two runners. SBU's Katrina Munoz, Stephanie Luciani and Karly Bitters also had run-scoring singles. OBU got two runs in the fifth, a single run in the sixth on a home run and three in the seventh to rally for the victory.
SBU will face both teams again on Sunday, with Henderson State first, scheduled for an 11 a.m. start, followed by a rematch with Ouachita at 3 p.m.
