TOPEKA, Kan. -- The SBU Bearcats suffered their largest loss of the season at Washburn, falling 100-71 to the Ichabods. The Ichabods jumped out a big first half lead of 53-27 and never looked back.
Ivan Cropotov tied his career high with 14 points, while Stephen Cotten had a career best with 12 points. Tristan Steele had 13 and Tomas Brock added 11 for the Bearcats. Cotten led SBU with eight rebounds, which tied his career high. SBU entered the game as one of the MIAA's top three-point shooting clubs, but struggled in Topeka, shooting 13% (4 of 32). The Bearcats shot 40% for the game and 72% from the foul line.
Logan Stuz had 18 points while Bryce Simons had 17 for the Ichabods (13-11, 7-10 MIAA) who had six players in double figures. Washburn shot 37 of 75 (49%) from the field. The Ichabods also outrebounded the Bearcats 50-35. Washburn hit 11 of 29 (38%) from outside.
Washburn led 23-14 with nine minutes left in the first half, before exploding to a 48-20 edge with 3:10 to go.
SBU (19-7, 10-6 MIAA) returns home and will host Fort Hays State on Thursday, February 18, beginning at 7:30 p.m. from the Meyer Sports Center. Fans are encouraged to bring (old or new) shoes to donate to the earthquake relief efforts in Haiti.
