EMPORIA, Kan. --
The SBU baseball Bearcats wrapped up their non-conference trip to Emporia State with a 10-2 loss to Arkansas Tech. The Wonder Boys jumped out to a 3-0 lead after scoring three runs off three hits and a Bearcat error. SBU would get a run back in the bottom half of the inning after center fielder Niko Saladis singled to lead off the inning, then stole both second and third to position himself to score off Paden Grubbs' groundout.

Arkansas Tech took advantage of opportunities in the fourth and seventh innings, and built up a nine run lead, when the Bearcats tacked another run on the board in the eighth. Second baseman Nigel Morton singled, stole second, then advanced to third on a balk by the Arkansas Tech pitcher. Justin Barnhart brought Morton home on a single to right field. The Wonder Boys would go on to score one more in the ninth to make a 10-2 final score.

Morton and Barnhart has solid days at the plate, each going 2-for-3. Starting pitcher Ethan Stenger struck out seven batters over 6 and 1/3 innings, while Josh Brock closed out the ninth without allowing a hit.

The Bearcats will be back in action next weekend, as they make their home debut on Friday, February 19, against Maryville. The nine-inning game is scheduled for 2 pm. The three-game series against the Saints will continue with a double-header on Saturday, February 20 with a pair of seven-inning games starting at noon. SBU's original scheduled contest at home with Rockhurst on Tuesday was rescheduled for April 13.
