EMPORIA, Kan. -- After a tough first inning, SBU was able to hang close for a few innings with the #1 Emporia State Hornets, but the preseason pick to win the MIAA pulled away, winning 10-1. Starting pitcher Greg Seay gave up only two runs on four hits through the first six innings, while striking out six. Offensviely, the Bearcats had runners in scoring position in three of the first six innings, but were unable to capitalize. SBU went on to drop the second game to Arkansas Tech, 21-1, later that afternoon.

Paden Grubbs went 2-for-3 in the opening game, including a double in the seventh inning. Grubbs  would go on to score off of catcher Steven Davis' single down the left field line that cut the Emporia lead to 4-1. The Hornets tacked on two runs in the bottom half of the seventh and four more in the eighth.

In game two against Arkansas Tech, Taylor Trotter went 2-for-3, while Grubbs and Kyle Wise had the only other hits for the Bearcats (0-5). Wise drove in the only run with an RBI single in the first inning. ATU got four runs in the first, seven in the second inning, two more in the third, five in the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the sixth inning.

SBU and Arkansas Tech will match up again Saturday at 11 a.m. at Emporia's Trusler Sports Complex.
