JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Three Bearcats scored at least 20 points as SBU led the entire way in a 93-81 win over the Lincoln Blue Tigers.
Tomas Brock led the 'Cats with 25 points, while
Ryan Dougherty and
Stephen Cotten each had 20.
Cotten scored down in the paint just ten seconds into the game, and that would be as close as the Blue Tigers would get to taking a lead. SBU jumped out to a 15-1 lead less than five minutes into the first half. Lincoln cut the lead back down to single-digits, where it stayed for most of the first half, until SBU closed out the final minutes with a 13-point advantage.
The Blue Tigers narrowed the SBU lead to 8 midway through the second half, when Jimmy Payton hit from down low. The Bearcats responded with three straight baskets to build up a 77-65 lead with eight minutes remaining.
Along with the strong offensive performances from Brock, Dougherty and Cotten, freshman
Zach Kleine scored in double-figures for the third time of his career, with 11 points off 4-of-7 shooting.
Cotten brought down eight rebounds, just two shy of the season's first double-double. Only Kurtis Koenig and
Robson Memnon have come closer, each grabbing nine boards at Missouri S&T earlier this season.
Brock went 3-for-5 from beyond the arc, after his 6-for-6 performance in his last game against Central Missouri. The Mount Vernon native dished out seven assists, the most this season by any Bearcat. Brock was also a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe, matching his percentage from the game against Central Bible College last month.
With the win, SBU remains perfect in the MIAA at 2-0, and improve to 5-3 overall. The Bearcats return home to host the Bulldogs of Truman next Tuesday, December 7. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
