BOLIVAR, Mo. -- Senior libero
Marcy Greenwade earned her 1,000 career dig, as the SBU seniors where honored before a 3-0 win over the Fort Hays State Tigers. Junior
Ashley Jurgensmeyer led the team with 11 kills, while
Kylie Heim had 10 kills and a .556 hitting percentage.
Fort Hays came out strong in the first set, never falling behind by more than six, after Britni Reed's kill gave SBU a 19-13 advantage. Hays closed the gap to 21-20, but SBU took four of the final seven points, highlighted by
Brianna Wallace's service ace, and won the opener, 25-23.
SBU was much more dominant in the following two games, taking big leads early in each set. The Bearcats took an 11-3 lead early in the second game. Hitting .524 in the second set, SBU collected 12 kills and took advantage of 9 Tiger errors in the 25-12 win.
With an 8-4 lead, the Bearcats went on a 14-4 run that put the third game away. Two of Wallace's three service aces game in the midst of an eight point run that gave SBU a 21-7 lead. Fort Hays would outscore SBU from that point, but was too far behind to make a comeback.
Seniors Greenwade, Wallace,
Joanna Granzow, and
Iceley Perry where honored before the start of the game. In her next-to-last game at Meyer Sports Center, Greenwade collected 11 digs, while Wallace had 33 assists and three service aces. Granzow had six kills, hit for .294, and had a team-high six total blocks. Perry picked up three digs in the win.
SBU earns their tenth win of the season with the sweep, marking the first time since 1987-89 that the Bearcats have reached double-digits in wins over three straight seasons. SBU will host nationally-ranked Emporia State on Tuesday, November 9, in the last home game of the season, at 7 p.m.
