BOLIVAR, Mo. --
MIddle hitter Ashley Jurgensmeyer led the Bearcats with 10 kills, but the Washburn defense racked up 63 digs on their way to a 3-0 win, 25-11, 25-16, 25-16. Senior Marcy Greenwade had a team-high 13 digs, while setter Brianna Wallace collected 20 assists.

Other than the opening game, in which the Lady Blues jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead, the Bearcats hung with Washburn in the early stages of each set. SBU held an 8-4 lead in the second game, before Washburn tied the match at 10-10, then led the rest of the way for the win.

Jurgensmeyer's kill tied the third set 5-5, but Washburn went on a 12-5 run from that point to hold a 17-10 advantage. SBU went on a short run and closed the gap to five, but couldn't overtake the sixth-ranked Lady Blues, as they went on to take the third game and the match.

Jurgensmeyer's ten kills marks the 17th time this season the Osceola, Mo. native has reached double-digits. Her streak of at least one block in a match reaches 14, her longest since a 20-game streak last season.

SBU falls to 9-19 on the year, and 4-12 in the MIAA. The 'Cats are back in action tomorrow afternoon, for Senior Day, where the four SBU seniors (Brianna Wallace, Marcy Greenwade, Joanna Granzow, and Iceley Perry) will be honored before the match, against Fort Hays State. The match is scheduled for 3 p.m.
