Marcy Greenwade had a team high 13 digs, while
Ashley Jurgensmeyer led the Bearcats with seven kills, but it wasn't enough as the #6 Washburn Lady Blues defeated SBU in straight sets, 25-15, 25-11, 25-13.
Early in the first set, Jurgensmeyer, along with
Jordan Nedbalek, teamed up for back-to-back kills to cut give the 'Cats an early 6-4 lead. The Lady Blues responded, however, taking 15 of the next 18 points and a 19-9 lead. Senior setter
Brianna Wallace collected six of her 18 assists in the first set.
Washburn didn't let up in the second set, as they held the Bearcats to a team hitting percentage of .057, and didn't allow SBU to reach double digits until they were facing set point.
Kylie Heim and
Jenna Isaacs joined Jurgensmeyer with a pair of kills during the set. The third set went to Washburn in similar fashion, with the Bearcats collecting a game-high six total blocks.
SBU will travel across Kansas, to take on the Fort Hays State Tigers, on Saturday, October 9, for a match beginning at 3 p.m.
