ST. JOSEPH, Mo. --
Senior Brianna Wallace recorded her 11th double-double of the season, as the SBU Bearcats knocked off the Griffons of Missouri Western, 3-1. Junior Ashley Jurgensmeyer recorded 16 kills and 11 blocks, giving her the second double-double of the year.

The opening set went back and forth, until SBU tied the match at 10-10, then went on a four point run to take a 14-10 lead. The Griffons made a run and closed the gap to 17-15, but a pivotal kill from Kylie Heim gave the Bearcats a 22-19 lead. After a pair of kills from Jurgensmeyer, SBU won the set, 25-21.

SBU hung with the Griffons throughout most of the second set, gaining a lead at 14-13 with a Caitlyn Muder kill. Missouri Western would get the following point for the tie, then not relinquish the lead for the rest of the set. SBU came within two, after a pair of errors from the Griffons made the score 20-18, but Western went on to take three straight points and took the 25-21 victory.

Western looked poised to take a 2-1 set lead in game three, after taking eight of nine straight points gave them a 9-5 lead. Down 21-16, the Bearcats ran off seven straight points, including four consecutive Missouri Western errors, and took a late 23-21 advantage. The Griffons answered with the next two points, tying the set at 23-23, but back-to-back kills from Jurgensmeyer and Wallace clinched the set for SBU, 25-23.

While the fourth game stayed close, SBU took a early 2-0 lead and never gave it up. Missouri Western threatened with three straight kills late in the game from Kelli Sicner that cut SBU's lead down to 22-19, but the Bearcats won three of the next five points, which was enough to clinch a 25-21 set win, and the match.

Jurgensmeyer's 11 total blocks is her best performance since her 14-block game against Pittsburg State. Brianna Wallace recorded 43 assists along with 15 digs for her 11th double-double of the year. Caitlyn Muder led the team with a season-high 19 digs, while senior Libero Marcy Greenwade collected 14 digs.

With the win, SBU snaps a three-game slide, and moves to 9-17 overall, and 4-10 in the MIAA. The Bearcats are back in action tomorrow night, as they face Northwest Missouri State, in Maryville. The match is scheduled for 2 p.m. SBU is back home next Friday, November 5th, when they host Washburn, at 7 p.m.
