BOLIVAR, Mo. -- In the first cold-weather game of the year, freshman forward
Ashley Creason scored her eighth goal of the season, but SBU lost the battle of the Bearcats to Northwest Missouri, 2-1.
SBU had a number of chances in the first half, but it was Creason getting behind the central defenders of Northwest, and taking
Kelly Isaac's pass on a breakaway that led to a 1-0 lead early for the purple Bearcats. Northwest was able to make some deep runs, but was usually turned away by the SBU defense. They broke though in the 29th minute, when a header from Amanda Bundrant got past the keeper for the score.
Northwest Missouri seemed to control the tempo more in the second half, outshooting SBU 7-3. Northwest scored what would end up being the game-winning goal when a pass from near midfield that was out of reach of the Northwest attackers, got away from keeper
Megan Link.
With the loss, SBU falls to 6-8-2 on the year, and 5-7-2 in conference play. The Bearcats head on the road next Thursday, November 4, to take on Washburn, then come home for the final game of the regular season on Saturday, November 6, to take on Missouri Southern on senior day. Kickoff for the final home game of the year is set for noon.
