Marcy Greenwade had a team-high 16 digs, but the SBU Bearcats fell to the nationally-ranked Truman Bulldogs, 25-20, 25-14, 25-17.
The Bearcats struggled with unforced errors throughout the night, committing 23 errors over the three game match. With just 26 kills, the 'Cats hit for .025 on the night.
SBU took an early lead in both the first and third sets, but both times the Bulldogs game back, forcing ties at 7-7 each game. After Truman got out to a 15-11 lead in the opening game, the two sides went back and forth, but the Bearcats couldn't gain an edge to cut into the Bulldog lead. SBU got within one, at 21-20, but Truman took the next four points after a timeout to finish off the first set.
After a rough second game in which the Bearcats fell 25-14 and committed 11 errors, SBU took a quick 6-2 lead in the third set, thanks in part to four Truman errors. The Bulldogs found their rhythm and commited just one more error through the rest of the game, helping them to tie the match at 7-7, and go on to hold a narrow lead throughout much of the rest of the set. Once again, the Bearcats pulled within one point, at 18-17, but Truman then took the final seven points to win the match.
Senior setter
Brianna Wallace finished with a team high 20 assists, while
Iceley Perry collected 14 digs, her highest total since recording 16 digs against Tarleton State earlier this season.
The Bearcats hit the road for a pair of games this weekend, traveling to Missouri Western on Friday, October 29, then heading to Northwest Missouri the following Saturday, October 30.
