Jenna Isaacs led the Bearcats with eight kills, but the Central Missouri Jennies took three straight sets from the 'Cats, winning 25-21, 25-21, 25-13. Junior
Kylie Heim recorded seven kills, with a hitting percentage of .353.
The Bearcats were playing right with their nationally-ranked opponent, falling just short in the opening two games. SBU took seven of nine straight points in the opening game, to cut the Central Missouri lead from 20-13, to 22-20; however, the Jennies took three of the next four to close out the set.
A killer strike from Isaac that tied the game at 8-8 was the highlight of a close battle early in the second game. Neither team could establish more than a two-point lead until Central's 11-8 advantage, and the 'Cats game back to tie the match again at 13-13 during a five-point SBU run. The Jennies answered back with five of the next seven, and built up an 18-13 lead. The Bearcats got close one more time, pulling to within one, at 20-21, but the Jennies closed out the set again to take a two games to one lead.
Central Missouri pulled away early in the third to clinch the win, getting out to a 14-4 lead and holding it through the rest of the set, while hitting for a .250 average. Senior setter
Brianna Wallace collected 25 assists, while
Marcy Greenwade followed up her MIAA Player of the Week honor with an 18-dig performance.
SBU falls to 8-15 on the year, and 3-8 in MIAA play. The 'Cats are back in action Saturday, October 23, when they travel to face Nebraska-Omaha, at 5 p.m.
