BOLIVAR, Mo. -- The SBU Bearcats pulled away down the stretch to top the Emporia State Hornets 75-62. The win was the 37th straight at home for the Bearcats, the second longest streak in Division II behind Findlay.

Tomas Brock led the Bearcats (13-2, 4-1 MIAA) with 18 points, one of four SBU players in double digits. Kurt Koenig had 17 points, Matt Rogers had 14 and Ryan Dougherty had 12. Tristan Steele had 10 rebounds to lead the 'Cats.

Head coach Jeff Guiot commented on his team's effort. "We didn't have ball movement and our energy was sluggish. We were a lot more active in the second half. We can't do this next time and need to play a full 40 minutes each night because every MIAA team is good. Emporia has good guard play and is well-coached."

Adam Holthaus led the Hornets (6-7, 2-4 MIAA) with 20 points while Lamar Wilbern added 15 points.

Rogers battled foul trouble during the night, which forced the Bearcats to adjust. "We sometimes rely too much on Matt and our ball movement suffers," said Guiot. "When he was in foul trouble, we played through it."

SBU led by one 33-32 at the half before outscoring the Hornets (6-7, 2-4 MIAA) 42-30 in the second frame. SBU made eight of 22 from three point range and shot 46% from the field. The Bearcats outrebounded the Hornets 41-30.

With the student crowd still on break, Guiot noted his team's performance suffered somewhat. "We missed the student crowd, but the crowd helped us out down the stretch. We've been spoiled with great fans, but we can't take that for granted."

SBU is right back in action on Tuesday night, when they host the Washburn Ichabods at 7:30 p.m. from the Meyer Sports Center.
