Volleyball drops two matches at Midwestern State Invite

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- SBU volleyball dropped both of their first day matches at the Midwestern State Invitational, falling by identical 3-1 scores to Drury and Central Oklahoma.

In the opener between local rivals, Drury (5-0) took the first two sets, 26-24 and 25-19, before SBU (2-4) would win the third, 25-22. Drury controlled the fourth and final set by a 25-10 score. Senior Kelsey Stewart led SBU with 10 kills while Brianna Wallace had 33 assists. Marcy Greenwade led the defense with 19 digs.

SBU's second match of the day matched the Bearcats with Central Oklahoma. UCO (4-2) took the first set, 25-21, before SBU would get the second, 25-19. The Bronchos would take the next two sets, 25-16 and 25-19. Freshman Alex Smith led SBU with 11 kills while Stewart and Ashley Jurgensmeyer added nine each. Wallace had 31 assists for the Bearcats and Greenwade and Smith led defensively with 19 and 12 digs respectively.

SBU looks to rebound on Saturday, when they take on the host Midwestern State at 11:30 a.m. and Tarleton State at 2 p.m.
