SBU soccer shuts out Emporia State

9/24/2009 8:53:00 PM

EMPORIA, Kan. -- The SBU soccer Bearcats complete the season sweep of the Emporia State Hornets, with a 2-0 victory.

After a shutout victory in Bolivar earlier in the season, SBU was able to collect another clean sheet against the Hornets in the rematch on the road. Freshman goalkeeper Megan Link earned her third shutout this season, and her second against Emporia.

Kelly Issac connected in the 39th minute to give the Bearcats the lead, which would prove to be enough for the win. The goal was Issac's second of the season, her first coming in the 2-2 tie against Dallas Baptist. Senior forward Shannon Roher doubled SBU's lead in the second half, after her third goal in as many games.

SBU outshot the Hornets, 35-11, marking the sixth straight game in which the Bearcats took more shots than their opponents.

With the win, SBU moves to 5-1-1 on the season, including 3-1 in conference play. Emporia State falls to 1-5-1 overall, and 1-3 in the MIAA. Up next for the Bearcats is a trip to Topeka to face the Washburn Lady Blues, who are still looking for their first conference win of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for Saturday, September 26th, at 6:00 pm.
