9/19/2009 6:44:00 PM

MARYVILLE, Mo. -- SBU soccer was given their first loss of the season by the Bearcats of Northwest Missouri, 2-1.

The green Bearcats struck first, in the 11th minute, as Andrea Tritz put one past goalkeeper Megan Link to go up 1-0. The rest of the first half went scoreless, and Northwest held an edge on shots over SBU, 7-6.

The 'Cats tied the match up early in the second half, as Shannon Roher connected on a pass from Callie Beard and Jen Tenholder, putting the match into a 1-1 draw. The goal was Roher's second in as many games. The tie would not last, unfortunately, as Northwest's Tritz put in her second goal of the match in the 78th minute. SBU had chances, as they outshot the green Bearcats, 6-4 in the second half, and 12-11 over the whole game.

With the loss, SBU falls to 4-1-1 on the season, and 2-1 in the MIAA. Northwest improves to 7-1 overall, and 3-1 in conference play. Next week, SBU has a pair of road matches; first a rematch against Emporia State, on Thursday, September 24, followed by a trip to Washburn University on Saturday, September 26. Kickoff against the Hornets of Emporia is scheduled for 4:00 p.m, while the game against Washburn will start at 6:00 p.m.
