SBU NOTES

DALLAS
, Texas -- The SBU Bearcats (3-5) continue the tournament portion of their early 2009 schedule with their third straight weekend tournament. SBU travels to Dallas, Texas, for the Dallas Baptist Lady Patriot Invitational. SBU returns five starters including All-MIAA middle blocker Ashley Jurgensmeyer and senior outside hitter Kelsey Stewart. Stewart earned all-tournament honors last week at the Midwestern State Invitational, after Jurgensmeyer and Brianna Wallace earned all-tourney honors at the ATU Spikefest during week one. Jurgensmeyer ranks eighth in the MIAA in hitting percentage (.314), Wallace stands ninth in assists (8.15 per set) and Marcy Greenwade is eighth in digs (3.79 p/s).

THE COACHES AND THE ALL-TIME SERIES
Bearcat head coach Kelly Richardson is in her third season guiding the Bearcats. She's improved SBU's win total from eight her first year to 13 a year ago.

Abilene Christian is coached by Kellen Mock who's in her fourth season leading the Wildcats. ACU finished 26-9 in 2008 and third in the Lone Star Conference. Southern Arkansas is led by Brooke White, who's 31-63 in her fourth season with the Lady Muleriders.

Nicole Smith leads the Cotton Blossoms of Arkansas-Monticello. Smith is in her fifth year with UAM and 13th overall. Mark Pryor guides Texas A&M-Commerce and is in his second season. Pryor is a former head coach at SBU, having coached the Bearcats in 2001 & 2002.
    
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
The Abilene Christian Wildcats are 5-3 on the season after a perfect 4-0 mark during their ACU Classic last weekend. Middle blocker Shawna Hines was named the LSC Defensive Player of the Week, Jordan Schilling was LSC Offensive Player of the Week and Ijeoma Moronu was LSC Setter of the Week.

The SAU Lady Muleriders have struggled this season going 1-9. Freshman libero Crystal Roberts set a school record with 52 digs in SAU's first win  Tuesday against East Texas Baptist.

Arkansas-Monticello is 1-5 on the new season with their win coming against Texas A&M-International at the St. Edward's Hilltopper Classic. Sara Kindred leads with 53 kills while Vikki Crisco averages 7.38 assists per set.

Texas A&M-Commerce stands 8-3 overall and has won four straight. Naomi Mays (2.6) and Amy Addison (2.33) lead the team in kills per set while Perla Faudoa averages 9.17 assists per set.
