QUINCY, Ill. -- The SBU Bearcats open up the 2009 season on a four-game road trip, starting off in Quincy, Illinois. SBU will have a new look and new coach, but return several players from last year's team that finished 9-6-3. Back for the Bearcats are All-MIAA first-team performers Caitlin Tull and Rhiane Mitchell. Mitchell is sophomore forward from Manchester, England, who led the MIAA in points per game (2.5), goals per game (1.07) and shots on goal per game (3.07). Tull, a senior from Yuba City, Calif., has been named first team All-MIAA as a defender in 2008 and midfielder in 2007. Other returning starters from last year for SBU include senior defenders Shannon Roher and Vanessa Roher, junior forward Jaymye Ross and sophomore midfielder Kelly Isaac.

The Quincy Lady Hawks are returning from their third straight NCAA Tournament appearance, where they fell in the second round last season. Quincy is returning nine starters from last year's squad, including forward Jenna Boyko and midfielder Becky Fleming, who were named first-team All-GLVC.

SBU will head back a little closer to home for the second game of the year, as they face off against Missouri S&T. The Lady Miners are picked to finish 11th in the 15-team Great Lakes Valley Conference, however, they do return 10 starters and 19 letterwinners from last year, where they won the most games in a season since 2003.

THE COACHES AND THE ALL-TIME SERIES
Bearcat head coach Rob Podeyn makes his debut for Southwest Baptist against Quincy; Podeyn was hired in April of this year after running the NAIA's Northwood University women's soccer program since 2006. Northwood had improved from a #212 national ranking to back-to-back conference titles.

Dave Musso will be starting his fourth season as Quincy head coach; Musso has compiled a record of 42-18-3, along with the 2006 GLVC regular season championship. On the sidelines for the Lady Miners is Jon Kiester. Kiester is entering his fifth season in Rolla, where they have seen steady improvement during his tenure.

SBU is 0-2-1 against Quincy all-time, with last year ending in a 0-0 tie, and 7-10-1 against Missouri S&T. This is SBU's first matchup with the Lady Miners since 2006 after last year's match was postponed.
