BOLIVAR, Mo. -- The #4 SBU Bearcats used a big second half to beat the Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks 98-85. The Bearcats extended their home court winning streak to 29 games and remained atop the MIAA standings.

Six Bearcats scored in double figures led by Wendell Mardis with 17 points. Matt Rogers and D'Ante Harris had 16 each, while Johnnie Harris had 15, Tomas Brock 13 and Brandon Clemons had 12. Rogers and Johnnie Harris each recorded double-doubles (Rogers - 14 rebounds, J. Harris - 10 rebounds). Mitch Albers had 20 points for Nebraska-Omaha.

"Nebraska-Omaha is a very good team," said head coach Jeff Guiot. "This was a great basketball game. They shot 63% in the first half and we shot 48% and were only down one, so we knew we were in it. It took defense and will. We made them earn their points in the second half."

SBU out-scored the Mavericks 47-33 in the second half after trailing at the half 52-51. SBU held UNO to 36% second-half shooting after the Mavs shot 19-for-30 in the first half. The Bearcats out-rebounded the Mavs 40-25 and connected on 13 three-pointers.

The teams stayed close in the first half with eight ties and 11 lead changes. UNO had the largest first half lead, by just six points on three occasions. The Bearcats took the lead for good at 58-56, early in the second half on a layup by D'Ante Harris. SBU would push their margin to as much as 18 on a trey by Harris with 7:39 remaining.

SBU improves to 22-3 and 15-3 in the MIAA while Nebraska-Omaha drops to 16-9 and 10-8 in the MIAA.

SBU is on the road on Wednesday in Maryville to take on Northwest Missouri State. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m. With a win against the green Bearcats, SBU can clinch a share of the MIAA regular season title, which would be their third championship in the last four years.
