BOLIVAR, Mo. -- At the SBU Thanksgiving Classic, the host SBU Bearcat women fell 83-67 to the Quincy Lady Hawks. The Bearcats cut the Hawks' lead to six points with ten minutes left, before Quincy would pull away down the stretch. Abbey Frazier (12 points) and Rachel Graves (11 points) led the Bearcats.
Quincy was hot from long range in the first half, going 8 of 12 and led by 48-33 margin at the break. The Bearcats (1-3) had a seven and a half minute stretch in the first half without a field goal, as the Lady Hawks (5-0) extended their lead.
Head coach J.C. Carter said his team needs a full game effort. "We hit a wall in the first half and we need to have the effort for the full 40 minutes. We will get better but we have to play the whole game and keep our intensity up. We did a better job rebounding but we still have to get the ball."
Courtney Heady and Freddie Sims each had nine points for SBU while Mia Gilreath led with seven rebounds. Quincy had five players in double figures led by Janette Burgin.
SBU continues action Saturday evening in the final game of the SBU Thanksgiving Classic. SBU will host Drury at 8 p.m. in the first meeting between the neighbors since 2001. Drury fell 75-73 to Central Missouri in the Classic opener, on a last second three by UCM's Danielle Shows. Central Missouri plays Quincy at noon in Saturday.
