BOLIVAR, Mo. -- SBU allowed a pair of goals within the first 20 minutes of the match with Central Missouri, forcing the Bearcats to play from behind the rest of the day. The Bearcats ended up falling short in the comeback, losing 2-1 to the Jennies. UCM's Melanie Hall connected in the 16th minute after taking the rebound of a teammate's shot that ricocheted off the post. Just six minutes after their first score, the Jennies responded with a second goal, by Kelsie Hanson, in the 22nd minute.
The UCM attack seemed to let up after the second score, and SBU was able to gain some momentum, outshooting the Jennies 7-1 from that point on until halftime, including a pair of shots from Kelly Isaac and Lindsey Boden that grazed the goalpost. In the 41st minute, SBU collected an own goal after Isaac's corner kick was received, shot towards the goal, and then deflected off of a UCM player, just across the goal line.
Even with the 7-1 run in shots, the Jennies outshot SBU, 10-8 in the first half. The offensive production slowed for both teams after halftime, but UCM did earn an advantage once again, getting four shots off to the Bearcats' one.
SBU falls to 6-9-2 on the season, and 4-9-1 in conference play, while UCM improves to 11-5-2, including a 10-3-1 MIAA record that puts them third in the standings. SBU will host the conference leading Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks this Thursday, November 5, in what will be the next to last home game of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. SBU final home game of the season will be held Saturday, November 7, at 12:00 p.m., as the 'Cats take on Northwest Missouri State.
